  1. Recent Attacks on Innocent Nigerians


The government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria notes with concern and equally condemns the recent attacks by the Boko Haram on innocent and hapless Nigerians at different locations in the country, including Kano, Maiduguri and Damaturu which have claimed many innocent lives and also disrupted social and economic activities in the affected areas. The government commiserates with the survivors of these incidents as well as the families and friends of the dead victims and, therefore, condoles them in these trying times, while exhorting all citizens to rise up to the present challenge.


In this light, the entire populace is called upon to be extra vigilant and security conscious within their environment to enable them identify and thwart the activities of terrorists, especially suicide bombers and their accomplices who deceive unsuspecting Nigerians to perpetrate their evil deeds. Prompt information from the citizens to appropriate security personnel and agencies will definitely facilitate effective check on the activities of terrorists.


In the same vein, the Centre strongly commends the gallantry displayed by the Nigerian security agencies in effectively repelling the various attacks, especially during the invasion of Damaturu, Yobe State in the early hours of yesterday. Equally, the courage shown by ordinary Nigerians in resisting terror attacks as witnessed during the recent bombing of the Grand Mosque in Kano, is highly commended.


  1. Need for Greater Cooperation Between All Tiers of Government


In the light of the current security situation in the country, the Centre, while appreciating the role of the Federal Government in protecting the lives and property of citizens, urges greater cooperation between the local and state governments in the area of community policing and similar exercises that will effectively check terror activities in the all parts of the country.


  1. General Advice to Nigerians Citizens


Given the security challenges facing the nation, against the backdrop of the 2015 General Elections and the deployment of IT knowledge and services by some privileged Nigerians for the achievement of their selfish interests and goals, the Centre wishes to appeal to the generality of Nigerians to be mindful of the activities of selfish and unscrupulous persons who may wish to undermine the greater interest of the country and welfare of her citizens. We must not allow these selfish interests and goals becloud our sense of duty and obligation to our country and fatherland.
